Before My Eyes
The wind is sobbing quietly
The laughter is a memory
The friends once warm in His embrace
Have gone and left cold, empty space
The Life of men with bated breath
Begins His certain march toward death

Upon His cheek a flowing tear
And no one there to see or hear
Upon the air a lonely cry

And even the birds are weeping in Gethsemane

Lazarus
Lazarus died and was buried
Been in the grave three days
Jesus was coming, I thought, to mourn
So I left the others with Mary
Walked down the road aways
Oh, it was so good to see he'd come
"Lord, if thou hadst been here
he never would have died"
"Lazarus will rise again"
the Lord of Life replied, I said,
At the resurrection, I know he'll rise again
And I will not forget the thing
That Jesus told me then

So we went down to the grave side
Clamoring mourners too
Wailing death's tragedy for a fee
Priests are pretending to sorrow

Would heal and bring life to the world for free.
"Take away the stone" he said and then he gave a shout
It pierced the hush of death when He said "Lazarus come out"

I came to this world with the heart of a painter
I wanted to paint a utopia here
With the glowing green valleys, bespeckled with flowers
Singing blue brooks, ponds shimmering clear
I painted the one, who strolling through heather
Would love and be loved by me all my life long
But the brush ran amok and the colors together
My painting was black and my pipe dream was gone

Whether we want to admit it or not
To love and be love seems a foolish endeavor
Yet it's forever, by everyone sought
I woke up today with the realization
That once more I'd sought for love all the wrong ways
In the process it's hurt every gentle relation

I'd like to give up, or take up graffiti
And paint out my pain anywhere I could find
But something won't stop, it seems to compel me
So onward I go with this hope in my mind
